Culturfied: Museum of the Moving Image and the Jim Henson’s Fantastic World exhibit
Many of us make it a goal to better ourselves as part of a NYE resolution and I, like many others, often find myself looking to make the most of the clean slate that is a new year. A personal goal this time: to enjoy a bit more of what the city has to offer and get a bit cultured. Once a week, I vow to take in some sort of culture, art, performance, show, maybe even just a movie. This week, a trip to Queens to visit the Museum of the Moving Image and to catch the Jim Henson exhibit before it closes down in March.
Above I have a few iPhone photos (note to self: next time bring the cam) with some highlight from the day. If you get a chance to make it out here, go on Sunday and be sure to hit The Astor Room for brunch beforehand; super cheap with a complimentary bloody and live jazz music.
As for the Museum itself, absolutely stunning. From info gathered from Foursquare tips, the spot was recently renovated in 2010 and it shows. Although the weekend will find you competing with families and children the Museum offers free admission on Friday afternoon and every ticket provides access to catch any screening available that day. We took in a 22 min episode of classic Black and White Dick Tracy complete with cheesy villains and episode cliff hanger.
With a ton of hands on stations like ADR, sound editing, film editing, stop motion and more, you can certainly learn a lot and stay busy making this a solid alternative to the big name museums and a valid excuse to get out to Queens for a day.

A Super New Years Eve
We captured a ton of photos at the New Years party this year with CULTUREfix. Above are a few favorites from my personal gallery (view more here on Facebook). Later in the week we’ll have at least one other gallery to upload along with some other media from the event and floating around somewhere are about 8 disposable cameras that need processing.
Thanks to everyone who came out and made the night a success and a big thanks to 6th Sense for DJing (his playlist is here) and rocking out for four hours. Also to CULTUREfix for having us back for the second year and row. Here’s to 2012.
