Live photos: Wale rocks the Hudson Hotel

On Wednesday night, D.C.’s Wale came through to bring his go-go sound to New York. Performing as part of Giant Step Presents Svedka Vodka Sessions, the rising star performed a passionate set on the roof of the Hudson Hotel. Setting the stage was special-guest DJ Mark Ronson, who signed Wale to his Allido record label. To see more photos from the event, check out our slide show, and be sure to download Wale’s latest free mixtape, Back to the Feature. Giant Step is planning to do more of these shows with other emerging talent, so head on over to its site to sign up for the mailing list. Click ahead for some juicy details on the show, including celebrity sightings.
The crowd may have been a bit more bougie than at the standard hip-hop show, with a number of high-profile names in attendance, including Entourage’s Emmanuelle Chriqui and Malin Akerman, and Shannen Doherty. Also partying alongside the stage was R&B singer Avery Storm, best known for his recent contribution to Rick Ross’s “Rich Off Cocaine,” from the album Deeper than Rap.
Despite a laid-back crowd, Wale and the UCB Band kept the energy high, performing both old and new material, including the artist’s two latest singles, “Chillin’” and “Pretty Girls.” But it was the old standbys, “Nike Boots” and “W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.,” that moved the crowd the most.
