Mixtape Street Album of the Week:
S.O.U.L. Purpose City Permits
Street ‘album’ may be pushing it a bit as this has a number of interludes from a Mick Boogie interview with Mazzi of S.O.U.L. Purpose, but nonetheless, a number of standout tracks make this an enjoyable listen. Highlights include the classic Statik Selektah produced ‘Talkin’ bout You,’ remixed with a feature from New York Nick along with ‘Keep Movin remix’ featuring a verse from Fresh Daily. The mixtape also has a joint produced for Peter Rosenberg’s Real Late on Hot 97. Presented by Mick Boogie and Terry Urban, who’s stamp of approval is often worth the download alone.
NYTIMES: 50 Cent vs Rick Ross
You can always tell when 50 Cent has a new album in the works, because he ends up in an over-the-top, media-friendly feud with another rapper. Last time it was Kanye West. This time it’s the Florida rapper Rick Ross, who also just happens to have a new album coming soon. The artist Andrew Kuo breaks the disses, accusations and allegiances down.
Love the ‘Jah Rule’ typo. At least this NYTimes article is littered with government names.

Understand rap
A (kinda) funny site dedicated to helping the average listener decipher content from hip-hops biggest stars. If the site actually stayed true to its strength, describing obscure lyrics like it does in the photo example, it could be great. Unfortunately there are some really awful questions having nothing to do with bars in the ‘recent’ section that takes away from the site. To find the best analysis use the alphabetic search and stick to artist with larger following as they have had more entries and questions asked.

Track of the Day - Q-Tip ‘We Fight, We Love’ remix
ft. Kanye West and Consequence

Just a feel good track for your Wednesday afternoon. I’m expecting a lot from the Cons album featuring major heavy lifting from Ye and Tip handling the production. Hip-hop often strives on collaboration, and its clear how much Kanye has been inspired by both in his production (tip) and flow (cons). ‘09 might be the year Kanye comes back to being an MC.

Combat Jack on Dame Dash
An insightful read from someone who was there and saw Dame in all of his brashness in person. I love that pic above. When this was being taken I was working as an intern for Surface magazine. I had gone out to grab a coffee with my old boss and we were talking about me becoming a full time staff member. As we walked down to Water St in Dumbo, there was Dame having this pic taken for a NYmag article. It was a strange moment. At the time I was huge fan of Dame’s and respected the hustle. Its a shame to see his recent demise but it shows that being the biggest ego in the room doesn’t always pan out. dailymathmatics
VIDEO: Asher Roth - ‘Lark on my go kart’
Posting just to get more hate IM’s from Jeff. Come on give it a shot. At least for the humor of Teddy Rupskin holding a revolver.
