This past weekend marked the fifth annual Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, and despite an afternoon of intermittent rainfall, crowds showed up in droves throughout the eight-hour day to support their own. I’ll have the 10th addition up tomorrow morning. I can’t believe its already been 10 weeks of this, 80 songs. I will say it gives me a different take to sorting through music. I download alot more new artists to give them a chance and there have been some I have been pleasantly surprised by. I may have to do a new playlist with some of the standouts from the first half of the year.

The other great part of doing these is putting together the composite images. Sometimes they look sorta dodgy when I’m short on time, but other I think they look pretty good. Its fun writting about these as well - I end up really having to read about some of the new artists and for more of the established MC’s like Jay or T.I. its often all already bee said. These really are about the small artists. The photos may often have to be the big names, just because of what pictures can be found, but its nice to offer a small amount of exposure for some new talent.

Yeah…so a week ago I promised to get back to old form and update whizhouse more. What can I say, I lied. The worst part is I have tabs open of things I want to post, but I hate not getting to write about everything I put up here.

Izza Kizza presents the Wizard of Iz

I’ve been slacking on whizhouse, but part of it has been me grinding harder at my thankless paying job. Last week I covered a mixtape release party at the Red Bull space and you can read the entire post here.

It was a hell of a night. Ian rolled through with his roomates and Dan took some fantastic photos which I posted here, and we deff enjoyed the free booze. On top of all that, this mixtape is actually much better than the first Izza tape, make sure to check it out, the download link is the The Volume post.

So last night as I was getting ready to leave the office I was handed a pair of tickets from the music editor to check out the Asher Roth/Chester French show at the Gramercy. I just finished posting up a blog post over at The Volume which includes the video below, plus this slideshow I threw together from the performance.
